Whale Rider Identifying Bias

WAL to identify bias in a text.  We had to highlight the words that showed Koro Apirana being biased.  He would be mean to Kahu because he wanted a boy to be the chief but Kahu was next in line and she is a girl.  

I thought this activity was

tricky to find where he was being biased.

easy because I could find the examples.

The easiest part was the ones where it said he was grumpy with her.  The hardest part was where it didn’t say it very clearly.

This activity was really interesting.

I hope we get to do something like this again.

I found this difficult because the chapters were mixed up and it was hard to put them in order.
I am pleased that I was able to finish the slides.

make connections

room 20 has been reading the, " bridge to Terabithia " in the story. it was raining really hard and the was swollen and flooded. yesterday it was pouring here as well. so we decided to do some authentic learning.
we made some raincoats from plastic bags and walked to see the creek behind our school. we could see the water flowing fast and the plants that had been flattened.

I thought it was  really fun because I did not do that ever with my class

I read this page in the story and used the picture to make an inference. I found this activity tricky because I couldn't remember everything I wanted to say. I can ask other people to help me with my inferencing. My next step with making inferences is to remember everything I want to say and look at the pictures for clues.
